EXPLORE METAPHORS

This blog was created simply as a safe space for me to explore metaphors from a variety of perspectives — and to enjoy, learn and grow in the process. I am using the term metaphor in the broadest sense possible – encompassing symbolism, analogy, simile — any scenario where one thing is expressed in terms of another. Not just through the written word, but through any artistic medium or physical ritual.

I believe that metaphors help us navigate our own metamorphosis or enlightenment. Through metaphors, we can access the beauty, understanding and peace available to us all. By putting the idea/concept/problem into another context, we are often rewarded by new insights and/or a sense of comfort. It is also a creative outlet; metaphors draw beauty and dignity out of the most ordinary circumstances by giving them meaning and purpose.

In this blog, I will explore metaphors from a variety of angles:

• Sacred Meaning: I will ascribe meaning to everyday objects and experiences by crafting metaphors around them.
• Ambiguous Meaning: I will contemplate stories and situations, developing multiple metaphors to obtain new perspectives and remain open to the idea that there is no absolute truth.
• Meaningful Action: I will explore ways of bringing metaphors to life through mantras, prayer, rituals and visualization to manifest positive change. I will investigate the broadening scope of work that uses metaphor for healing.

At this moment, my goal is to navigate my own perplexing life experiences by utilizing metaphors. Hopefully, these thoughts will help others too. My purpose and focus may change as I explore these topics, but it’s all part of the journey! For any visitors, I welcome your thoughts, perspectives and conversation.
